    • Dome Port
    • Kapton Film
    • Retainer O-ring
    • Housing O-ring
    • Aft Edge Guard
    • Forward Edge Guard

Step 1 Remove the Dome Port

  • A comprehensive guide with instructions on removing the dome port of your HDMSC can be found here.
  • This guide also uses 3D printed tools so be sure to print these before proceeding.

Step 2 Prepare the Housing

  • Remove the O-ring from the housing
  • Remove the Kapton ring
  • Clean the O-ring groove with Isopropyl alcohol and a lint free wipe
  • Be sure that the dome seat is free of dust or lint by using a bit of pressurized air to blow it off.
  • Grease the housing O-ring (P/N 520-00968 - O-RING M2.00 X 47.00 BUNA 90 DURO BLK) and slide it over the back end of the housing and into the groove.
  • Using tweezers or a gloved hand, gently remove the Kapton ring from its packaging. Be sure not to bend or crease any part of the film.
  • Place the film on the dome seat making sure that the inner edge fits around the light trap and that it is laying flat.

Step 3 Prepare the Port Retainer and Cowl Retainer

  • Prepare the cowl retainer and port retainer by removing any remaining silicon adhesive from the threads using a lint free wipe and some isopropyl alcohol.
  • Use the image to the left as a visual reference for installing the O-rings and edge guards.
  • Grease the port retainer O-ring (P/N 520-00991: O-RING M2.00 X 49.00 BUNA 70 BLK) and place it in the appropriate groove toward the forward section of the port retainer.
  • Install the forward edge guard (P/N 741-011-0113-00-0A) just behind the O-ring. You may need to slightly bend the ring to get it past the initial inner diameter just don't bend it so much that it becomes deformed or damaged.
  • Install the aft edge guard (P/N 741-011-0112-00-0A)  just behind the forward edge guard. Again, you may need to slightly bend the ring to get it past the initial inner diameter, just don't bend it so much that it becomes deformed or damaged.
  • Make sure that the O-ring and edge guards are all placed snuggly in their respective spots with no part sticking out from the groove.

Step 4 Install Dome

  • Just in case, inspect the new dome for any smudges or dirt and clean as necessary with isopropyl alcohol. Cleaning the interior surface is quite difficult when the dome is already installed so this is the best chance to clean it.
  • Place the new dome on the housing's dome seat so that it is evenly centered. Try not to move the kapton film.
  • Place the port retainer over the dome as shown. It is okay if it doesn't seem like the port retainer is entirely seated on the dome. This will be remedied in a later step
  • If you haven't already, screw the set screws into the vice fixture suing the hex wrench. They only need to protrude ~1mm into the interior.
  • Place the vice fixture over the assembly as shown being sure that the fixture's set screws are interfacing with the grooves on the port retainer
  • Making sure to hold the assembly in the fixture, flip it upside down and place it in a vice.
  • Next, apply and spread a couple of pea sized amounts of the Loctite Silicon Adhesive on the forward threads of the cowl retainer. This will spread around to the remaining threads when you screw it into the port retainer. You can use a gloved finger or a toothpick to spread the adhesive, just don't use anything fibrous like a Q-tip.
  • Place the cowl retainer over the rear end of the housing so that the threads feed into the threads of the port retainer in the fixture.
  • Using the cowl retainer wrench, turn the cowl retainer clockwise, screwing it into the port retainer.  You can get it started by hand, but make sure to use a torque wrench and torque the assembly to 13.6Nm [120 in. lbs.] to finish it off.
  • Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to try in air at room temperature.
  • If you wish to verify that the seals work but do not have a way to pressure test, soaking the reassembled housing for 24 hours in water should suffice.
  • This concludes the instructions for replacing the dome port of your HDMSC, instructions for closing the HDMSC can be found here. Please reach out to our support team at support@deapsea.com with any question or concern regarding this guide.
