This guide contains instructions for removing the dome port of an HD Multi SeaCam using the Dome Replacement Tool Kit and the Dome Replacement Parts Kit. To purchase these kits, please contact our Sales Department. The tool kit has 3D printed tools. STL files for these tools can be found here

Tools

  • Vice
  • Hex Wrench (1.3mm/0.050")
  • Dome Replacement Tool Kit
    • Vice Fixture
    • Set Screws
    • Cowl Retainer Wrench
    • Dome Press Plate
    • Retainer Support Plug
  • Work Table

Step 1 Download and 3D Print the Tool Kit

  • Download the STL files here and print on 3D printer. We recommend using ABS as this is what we use in house, but any material should do.
  • Assemble the fixture by screwing in the provided set screws; they only need to protrude from the interior diameter by about 1mm

Step 2 Open the HDMSC and Remove the Chassis/Endcap Assembly

  • A comprehensive guide with instructions on opening an HDMSC and removing the chassis can be found here.

Step 3 Remove the Cowl

  • Using a 1.3mm/0.050" hex screwdriver, loosen the 6 set screws on the cowl and remove it

Step 4 Remove the Cowl Retainer

  • Place the fixture in the vice and tighten it lightly
  • Place the housing in the fixture as shown making sure that the set screws in the fixture interface with the slots in the port retainer.
  • The housing shouldn't be able to rotate in the fixture
  • Take the cowl retainer wrench and slip it over the cowl retainer (black plastic ring) making sure that the nubs on the wrench interface with the grooves in the ring. You may need to remove the main wrap label in order to get the wrench to the cowl retainer
  • Turning the wrench counterclockwise, unscrew and remove the cowl retainer

Step 5 Remove the Dome Port Assembly

  • With the cowl retainer removed, take the housing in your hand and twist it back and forth in the housing to loosen up the seals
  • After twisting for a bit, you should be able to remove the dome port assembly from the housing by pulling it away from the housing or it may simply come off as you twist

Step 6 Extract the Dome from the Port Retainer

  • Remove the fixture from the vice, flip it over, and place the dome port assembly in the fixture as shown in the image to the left. Make sure the grooves on the metal port retainer ring are interfacing with the set screws in the fixture.
  • Place the retainer support plug in the bottom of the fixture under the dome port assembly.
  • Place the fixture with the dome port assembly and retainer support plug on a workbench or similar flat surface
  • Take the dome press plate and place its concave divot on the dome's apex
  • Using your hands, press down on the press plate; you will need to use considerable force to get the dome to pop out. Using your body weight may be useful. If you can't get the dome to pop out this way, you can try using a vise or press to sandwich the fixture and press plate together and add force.
  • The dome should come out with a small pop, if you wish to reuse this dome, make sure to wrap it in bubble wrap and store it in a safe space so it does not get scratched or damaged
  • Instructions on installing a new dome can be found here
