This How To Guides explains how to replace the power harness in an IP Model HD Multi SeaCam

Tools

  • No. 99 Channellock Crimp Tool
  • Heat Gun
  • Wire Strippers
  • Wire Snippers
  • Scissors
  • Small Pliers (optional)

Materials

  • HDMSC Power Harness Kit
    • Power Harness
    • Crimped Connectors (x2)
    • Heat Shrink (x2)
  • Heat Shrink (small)

Step 1 Disconnect RJ45 connector and Harness Connector

  • Press down on the locking tab of the RJ45 connector at the rear of the housing and gently pull to disconnect.
  • The harness connector is difficult to disconnect, we recommend those with large fingers use some pliers to gently pull the connector at the wires. The wires may break away from the connector but this is fine as we are replacing them.

Step 2 Remove Old Harness

  • First, take note of the wires connected to the power harness.
  • Then, cut bulkhead wires as close to the old crimped connections as possible.

Step 3 Prepare Bulkhead Wiring for Crimping

  • Strip bulkhead wires to desired length (about 1/4 inch)
  • Strip harness wires to desired length (about 1/4 inch)
  • Cut and slide heat shrink over wiring
  • Place crimp connector in crimping tool

Step 4 Crimp the Connectors

  • While holding the crimp connector using the crimp tool, place the stripped portions of wire in the crimp connector.
  • Once the portions of wire are properly lined up in the connector, firmly close the crimp tool around the connector
  • To be certain of proper connections, you can can use this opportunity to check for continuity using a multimeter (check from the harness connector to the bulkhead)
  • Perform the same steps for the other connection

Step 5 Heat Shrink and Reconnect

  • Fold unused wires over on themselves and seal with heat shrink.
  • Apply heat using heat gun to seal all heat shrink
  • Reconnect RJ45 and power harness connector to camera module
  • A pair of small pliers works well in reconnecting the power harness connector
